With the ongoing improvement in communication networks and means of transport, getting to the Costa del Sol is increasingly fast and easy.
Travelling By Plane
A high percentage of the tourists coming to the Costa de Sol on holidays reach the area –the southernmost in the Iberian Peninsula– by plane. Their first contact with Málaga Province is, of course, its airport, Pablo Ruiz Picasso.
Lying 8 kilometres away from Málaga City and 5 from Torremolinos, Pablo Ruiz Picasso Airport is home to 80 international airlines connecting Málaga to the main cities in Spain, Europe, Northern Africa, and North America. Those cities where no direct flights to Málaga are served use the airports in Madrid or Barcelona to make flight connections and thus reach the Costa del Sol.
Once in the airport, those tourists who have bought a travel package will be greeted by a guide from their travel agent, who’ll take them to the hotel. Travellers coming on their own can choose among various means of transport to get to their destination.
Getting Around By Taxi
There’re two taxi ranks at the airport, in the Arrivals area of Terminals 1 and 2. Taxi cabs are white bearing a blue stripe and a plate with a green light.
Getting Around By Bus
Travellers coming to Málaga City or Marbella can take a bus from the airport. Line 19 of EMT (Empresa Malagueña de Transportes) links the airport to Paseo del Parque, in downtown Málaga, and it has many stops along the way. It even stops at the coach station on Paseo de los Tilos, where coaches can be taken to anywhere in Málaga Province, or to other destinations in Andalusia or Spain (long-distance coaches).
Bus frequency depends on the day and time, ranging from 20 to 40 minutes.
There are CTSA-Portillo shuttle buses connecting Terminals 1 and 2 with the coach station in Marbella. They leave every 45 minutes.
