El Bajondillo (Torremolinos)
One of the most characteristic tourism symbols of Torremolinos is the beautiful beach of El Bajondillo. It gets its name from the district whose curious zigzag street plan, caused by the tremendously uneven terrain it must traverse, extends from the foot of the iconic Pimentel Tower to the very edge of the sea.

Amidst the thick greenery of these surroundings stand modern hotels, large residential developments and various recreational areas that, needless to say, look out to sea. All along its broad seafront promenade—virtually a continuation of La Carihuela’s, but considerably wider here as there is more space available—are numerous beach bars and restaurants where “pescaíto” (small fried fish) is naturally the star attraction. Torremolinos also has, however, almost 300 restaurant establishments devoted to international cuisine, so it is impossible not to satisfy the taste of anyone who opts for something other than the famous “pescaíto”.

The beach offers all the services to be expected of an area thoroughly developed and equipped for accommodating a large number of visitors, nor does it lack welcoming palm groves and grassy areas to impart a pleasantly cool sensation.

If to this are added the 1,000 metres of Playamar and the 1,500 metres of Los Álamos, the sandy beaches of the eastern part of Torremolinos reach the respectable length of almost four kilometres. They are, furthermore, bordered by a delightful seafront promenade where visitors can find all kinds of services.

The Casa de los Navajas dominates this area of Torremolinos. This is a curious small palace that was built in the first quarter of the twentieth century in the Neo-Mudéjar style and attracts the attention with its whimsical exterior decoration, similar to that of some of the pavilions of the Iberoamerican Exhibition that was held in Seville in 1929. Some authors therefore consider it a referent for that exhibition.
How to get there
Torremolinos is fourteen kilometres from Málaga, the provincial capital, and only three from Pablo Ruiz Picasso International Airport. The municipality is therefore perfectly accessible by highway whether by the Costa del Sol Expressway, the new Autopista del Sol or, by way of the coast, by the former CN-340, which has been practically converted into an attractive boulevard.

The municipality also boasts a modern commuter rail line that connects it to the city of Málaga, Benalmádena-Arroyo de la Miel and Fuengirola, as well as with Pablo Ruiz Picasso International Airport.
