Duchess’s Castle
The town of Manliva, holds a wide display of roman sites, amongst which the setting of the Castillo de la Duquesa (Duchess’s Castle) stands out. It occupies the place where at other times there was a roman town, part of whose material was reused for the construction, arising in its shadow the neighbourhood so named. In 1767, a resident of Seville, don Francisco Paulino built it at his expense, and as a result, the king awarded him the leadership of a cavalry company. The plan and the running of the work was undertaken by the engineer Don Miguel del Castillo.
