Consorcio Guadalteba

The Shire of Guadalteba is located in the north of the province of Málaga, between the Serrania de Ronda and the Vega de Antequera, comprising the municipalities of Almargen, Ardales, Campillos, Cañete la Real, Carratraca, Calf Cuevas, Serrato, Sierra de Mares and Teba.

Because of its geography and history, the Shire of Guadalteba presents a wide range of tourism opportunities, ranging from adventure sports to cultural tours, though, with the common denominator of quality in all services, with accommodation for all tastes and pockets, guided tours and gastronomy, based on local products.
From the mountains to the small inland sea that make up the Guadalhorce reservoirs, Guadalteba and Conde del Guadalhorce, through the countryside, the Shire of Guadalteba was surprised by the diversity of landscapes that make up, hosting many species of animals and plants. There are also two protected natural areas: the Natural Gaitanes Gorge, also known as "El Chorro", and the Natural Reserve of Lagunas de Campillos, both scenic and natural value. A natural resource is added without doubt, one of the attractions of the region, its heritage, covering all areas, from prehistory to modernity, and which has special interest and dedication to conservation and revaluation.
Nature and history have come together under a single prism, Guadalteba Heritage Network, a wealth management model that meets Interpretation Centres, archaeological sites and natural areas of great interest, with the added value of having a professional team of guide- interpreters who accompany visitors.
Three routes summarized this legacy, a route on the prehistory, with the Centres for Interpretation of Prehistory in Guadalteba and Ardales Prehistoric Cave and a museum about the Tartessos in Guadalteba, located in Almargen. The Municipal Archaeological Museum and the Necropolis Teba Peñarrubia Visigoth Guadalteba Park (Campillo), form the historic offer that transports us to ancient times and let us see the ways of life and work of our ancestors. The Middle Ages Guadalteba were assumed in a time of great convulsions, which never merged the two cultures that dominated the world. The river banks were Guadalteba Turon and the frontier between Islam and Christianity, which had their first confrontation during the Moorish revolt led by the rebel Ibn Omar, whose capital was Hafsún Bobastro (Ardales), where he built the first church Mozarabic Andalusia, leading to confrontation between the kingdom of Granada and Castile, built forts as impressive as the castles of Teba, Cañete la Real, Rock of Ardales and Turon, which can be visited with the added interest of its museological.
Finally, the Heritage Red Guadalteba which you can´t forget in our recent history, recommending a visit to Carratraca (in Málaga only people declared of cultural interest of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia) where you will see a nineteenth century urban development associated with its famous spa sulphurous waters. It is also very interesting to visit the area of ​​the Reservoir, where you can stroll and admire the Conde de Guadalhorce Dam, the chair of King Alfonso XIII and the impressive walls of the gorge of the Gaitanes and the Caminito del Rey.
The traditional festivals of the region, adding to the varied offer of Guadalteba, often at the hands of the typical gastronomy of the area as the Asparagus Fair in Sierra de Mares April or the Artisan Cheese Fair Teba, or the Feast of the Massacre in Ardales, celebrated in the month February. With another more ethnographic character, we find the spell of the Luna Mora, which takes place in Carratraca or Easter, which in the case of Campillos has been declared National Tourist Interest in the case of Carratraca, where they represent in their place Passion de Toros.
