In El Burgo on Easter Sunday one of the most highlighted acts of Holy Week is celebrated, the Burning of Judas which attracts hundreds of neighbours and tourists year after year.

The tradition starts on Easter Sunday in the morning when a truck that transports Judas wakes everybody up by going from street to street all around the town. Judas is massive effigy made of cloth and filled with fireworks that represents a different figure each year, symbolising the bad and sinned.

At about 12 noon, Resurrected Christ and Miraculous Virgen's thrones can be seen with an image of Judas in 'La Plaza de Abajo'. It's then when the most awaited moment starts, a fuse is lit and the effigy is set alight and starts to go off with big explosions and everything is covered in thick smoke. The people attending celebrate that moment as it means that the bad has been defeated and Christ has risen.
