The Serranía de Ronda mountain ranges: open spaces and clearly marked mountain bike trails

In the past, the mountain ranges of the Serranía de Ronda were the hideout of bandits and brigands. Today, these landscapes are perfect for cycling. The open spaces are ideal for bicycle touring and there are many mountain bike trails, all are very clearly marked and follow secondary roads with little traffic.

These routes range from 7 to 40 km and have different levels of difficulty. One of the most attractive options for experienced cyclists is the downhill mountain bike trail in Algatocín, with many obstacles to be negotiated before finally reaching the Genal river.

Contrasting landscapes in the north of Málaga province

The northern mountain range, in the region of Nororma, is also recommended for cyclists. There are a total of 7 mountain bike trails offering a contrasting variety of gradients, plains, holm oak forests, natural springs, rivers and reservoirs. The different routes take you through villages such as Villanueva del Rosario, Villanueva de Algaidas, Archidona, Cuevas de San Marcos and Cuevas Bajas. A compulsory visit is the 100 Caños Fountain, a Natural Monument in Villanueva del Trabuco. This is one of the most beautiful and undiscovered inland areas of the Costa del Sol. Link!

The Málaga Great Path and the Coastal Path by bike

The Málaga Great Path has a network of footpaths, many of which are adapted to mountain bikes. If you want to explore coastal landscapes on two wheels, we would recommend following the Coastal Path, which runs along the entire length of the coast.

Cycling in the city

Cycling around a city is a fun, different and environmentally friendly option. In all the main tourist towns you can find companies that offer cycle tours, and they will also show you all the city's highlights. Málaga offers the greatest number of options, boasting a public cycle hire scheme and numerous rental companies.

These are just a few suggestions, but there are many more places to get away from it all with your bike on the Costa del Sol. Come and explore!
