Yunquera, paraíso del Pinsapo

Yunquera, Spanish fir paradise

Share

Yunquera is the point of entry for the Sierra de las Nieves Nature Park. We began our trip in the Spanish fir forests, landscapes that are typical to the region. The natural wealth of these surroundings can be seen on a number of different routes, where you can see the large variety of florafauna and limestone formations.

Its urban core of cobbled streets means it isn’t accessible to traffic, so we left our car at the entrance to the village. Before we went in, we visited its Lookout Tower - better known as El Castillo (The Castle) to the locals. This is where you'll find the information centre for the Sierra de las Nieves Nature Park.

Having pondered several possible places to go for lunch - Yunquera does after all boast several restaurants where the food is fantastic.

To end the day, we visited the Paco Sola House Museum, which houses the main attractions of the village’s local culture, and we also visited the Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación Church as well as the Cruz del Pobre Chapel, one of the best preserved monuments in the village.
