Scuba diving, kite surfing and other water sports on the Costa del Sol

The Nerja coast is the most popular destination for scuba diving enthusiasts, and the cliffs of the Maro-Cerro Gordo Area of  Natural Beauty are their personal paradise. The seabed in this area is a real treasure trove for lovers of scuba diving and snorkelling. It’s also the ideal spot to go kayaking and enjoy the spectacular cliff landscapes.

You’ll also find perfect diving beaches in Benalmádena, Marbella and Estepona.

If you want to be carried along by the waves and enjoy sports such as kite surfing, this sport is allowed on beaches including Guadalmar (Málaga), Río Real (Marbella) and Guadalmansa (Estepona).

Water sports and inland landscapes

Would you like to do water sports whilst enjoying nature and mountain landscapes? In Málaga province sports in the water are not confined to the coast. Aquatic experiences and adventures can also be found in the interior, where you can also discover new landscapes.

Visit the Conde de Guadalhorce reservoir, more popularly known as the Chorro. It is situated next to the Los Gaitanes Gorge Area of Natural Beauty and the Caminito del Rey trail, and here you can enjoy paddle surf, kayak trips and canoeing.

Canyoning is another recommended activity. You’re in contact with nature, and enjoy a good soaking on the way down. The perfect place for canyoning: the Sima del Diablo, in Júzcar.

Specialised water sports companies

If you don't have much water sports experience or are a new adventurer, it’s best to start with an introductory course. The majority of companies specialising in nautical tourism offer programmes adapted to all levels and can also provide all the necessary equipment.
