La Ruta de la Miel (The Honey Route) is an activity "Apiturística" (tourism beekeeping) that develops into a local path format and theme, which aims to highlight the value of beekeeping as traditional rural activities and promote its benefits in the conservation of biodiversity and sustainability environment for the work carried out by bees pollinating.
Completion of the Path of Honey involves performing about five stops in places specifically marked with plaques, which are examples of plants of interest in beekeeping. Explanations are given by the monitors on the plants in question and his interest in bees, flowering times and types of flowers, type of honey obtained.
They also do one or two stops in places wider view of the Montes de Malaga, also signed on the explaining (in front of a poster made for the purpose) the origin of the existing vegetation in sight and the current situation, depending place, referring to the different spots of blooms that are observed.
At the end of the course, for those who are interested, there is a demonstration apiary where the visitor, with appropriate protective measures, can see the different types of hives and inside cells, where bees are alive.
Once the path of Honey, will visit the Museo de la Miel and ends the visit to a beekeeping cooperative (in Casabermeja) with a tasting of the main types of honey which is obtained in the area. This activity complements the 'Food of Honey' in the recipes included honey, in concert with several restaurants in the municipality.
