Peña del Hierro
The Peña del Hierro, a rocky hill with a section reserved for rock climbing, is located in the northern part of the municipality of Cútar. Remains have been found that demonstrate Neolithic to Stone-Age human settlements. The area is a natural point on the path between High and Low Axarquía. At the highest point of the summit, visitors may find the Fuente de la Mano, a kind of spring rising from a hollow which flows throughout the year. Walking the Peña del Hierro, we can observe olive trees, carob trees and shrubs. In terms of fauna, there are amphibians, lizards, colubrid snakes; birds including European greenfinches, hoopoes, song thrushes and corn buntings; mammal species include rabbits, badgers, foxes and the common rat.
