These mountain ranges, which belong to the Baetic System and which also contain the Sierra de Gibalto, are the most important in the municipality of Villanueva del Trabuco. The highest summits are between 1,200 and 1,400 metres high; among a range of features of interest, they are distinguished by the limestone terrain typical of mountain ranges in this area, with a surface covered by grain crops and olive groves. Sierra Gorda is home to the sources of the rivers La Chocilla, La Pita, Borreguero and Canelas; in San Jorge, we can find the Cien Caños spring (“the Hundred Pipes”, although in fact it has 101) and the Cerro Tello hill. This hill’s most striking feature is its height: it is taller than any other in the municipality.
