The Casa de la Joya belonged to one of the most prominent families in the history of this area. While the only record of its construction dates from 1864, people believe it was built many years earlier. The Medina family, original owners of this property, they were key characters in the repopulation of this area after the conquest of the south by Ferdinand and Isabella. The Medina de la Coba family was in the wine, raisins and dried fruit trade. Then, a daughter of the Medina family married José Sevilla, another distinguished surname at the time, consolidated their economic strength and influence in the area. The Casa de la Joya is a vital structure, with great architectural, landscape and historical value. It's now home to Torrox's municipal courthouse.
