La Alcazaba de Málaga

The Alcazaba of Málaga

Share

The Alcazaba of Málaga is one of Málaga’s historical monuments at the foot of the Gifralfaro Castle. This fortress was built by the Hammudid dynasty between 1057 and 1063. The blend of Roman, Arab and Renaissance artistic and architectural influences makes this place a cherished one for Málaga’s inhabitants.

This fortress-palace has a large number of rooms. Among the standouts is the “Plaza de Armas,” once home to the artillery and today is a Moorish-style courtyard, along with the “Puerta de los Arcos”.

Combining defence and beauty in a single enclosure, the Alcazaba has become one of the city’s most iconic monuments through receiving more than 500,000 visits annually. If you want to get a closer look at Málaga’s history, this monument is one you can’t miss.
