Alexéi Jawlensky (1864-1941) is an artist whose works are exhibited in museums around the world. He was a contemporary and friend of Wassily Kandinsky, Gabriele Münter, Paul Klee and other famous artists of the first decades of the 20th century. As an artist in Russia he studied together with Iliá Repin and admired the works of Valentín Serov, Konstantín Korovin and other masters of realism and impressionism.

In his works, the colour, sun and air predominate. The artist displays a very genuine style and a unique repertoire that had a significant impact on mid-twentieth century European art. Jawlensky expressed his emotions through colour, which he turned into images in which the naturalness disappeared and mysterious pictorial mirages emerged. During the last period of his life, he created a cycle of works inspired by religious art.

His work is exhibited in Malaga’s Russian Museum Collection along with work by his contemporaries. An essential exhibition for learning about 20th century Russian art.
