What to See in Fuente de Piedra

Fuente de Piedra is the perfect stereotype of the Andalusian plains village. Its streets are mainly laid out at right angles and there are a number of large houses with noteworthy architecture to be seen on them, such as the neoclassic nineteenth-century Palacio de la Marquesa de Fuente de Piedra (Palace of the Marchioness of Fuente de Piedra) and several buildings with lintelled doors.

The parish church of Virgen de las Virtudes (Virgin of the Virtues, the patron saint of the locality), dates from the nineteenth century. It was built in the Mudéjar style, a type of architecture that in one way or another proliferated throughout that century in many cities of Andalusia, especially in those that wanted to increase their religious heritage.

But there is a very special monument in Fuente de Piedra and that is the stone fountain that dates back to the Roman period and which has been in the main square since the eighteenth century. The fountain is a kind of tribute to the Roman fountain that most probably lent its name to the village. In the reconstruction of the fountain stone blocks from the old Fons Divinus, whose water Romans considered to have healing properties.
