Birthplace Picasso Museum Foundation

The Birthplace Museum offers a recreation of a nineteenth-century living-study, which shows a painting of the artist's father "Palomar", 1878, as well as personal family memories and works of authors of the nineteenth century Malaga.

Pablo Ruiz Picasso Foundation was created by agreement of the full Hon. City of Malaga on February 26, 1988 with the aim of promoting, enriching and disseminating the life and work of the artist. His birthplace, at No. 15 Plaza de la Merced in Malaga, headquarters of the Foundation, was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument of National Interest March 25, 1983.

On February 20, 1991, the Ministry of Culture joined the Foundation in the Spanish Museum System. Subsequently, their spaces could be extended to fill the remainder of the property, after rehabilitation and reopening of it by Their Majesties Kings of Spain, June 22, 1998. In 2005, the institution enjoyed further expansion with the opening of a new showroom at No. 13 Plaza de la Merced.
