Destination: Johannesburg. 14,000km by Gyroplane
An exhibition for all kinds of visitors, 'Destination: Johannesburg. 14,000km by Gyroplane, A tribute to Juan de la Cierva" shows the ability of man to enjoy adventure while paying tribute to the man who invented this flying gadget. Taking off at the Fuente Obejuna aerodrome in Córdoba, stopping over at several spots in Africa and finally landing in Johannesburg, three pilots get lost in endless jungles, face breakdowns (even a crash), repair their aircraft in impossible shops, go to jail for sowing terror in the population, and finally reach their destination.
The airframe of a gyroplane and a huge map of Africa give visitors a hint of what this exhibition is about. Then they can see many of the photographs taken by pilots Francis Giménez, Nacho Yuste and Pablo Benthem, who relied on Gloria Hernández for logistic support in Spain. (Benthem and Hernández live in Moclinejo.) On their journey, Giménez, Yuste and Benthem skirted the Atlantic coast of Africa and flew for over 14,000km over Spain, the Strait of Gibraltar, Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Benin, Togo, Nigeria, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Angola, Namibia, Botswana and South Africa.
