Enrique Morente: Omega

The great flamenco singer Enrique Morente singing songs by the great composer Leonard Cohen. Lagartija Nick “stalked” Morente until he agreed to work with them on a record of Cohen’s songs called Omega. Rock and flamenco, Granada and Manhattan, and the generous shadow of Lorca giving his blessing. A unique moment.

It had to happen. Some things are destined to find each other. The eminent Leonard Cohen admits that a young boy gave him flamenco lessons in his youth, and that this was to have a major influence on his art. Years later, the also eminent Enrique Morente sang some of Cohen’s songs (“This is as if Ray Charles sang one of my songs”, said the New Yorker), including the celebrated “Take this waltz”. It seemed that the circle was closed... but the rock and rollers were still missing.
