Pilgrimage and Procession of Santo Cristo de la Sierrra
- 3 May 2018 - 6 May 2018
The first weekend of May, in the Malaga town of Valle de Abdalajís, belonging to the region of Guadalhorce, the traditional pilgrimage and procession of the Santo Cristo de la Sierra, a festival declared of Unique Tourist Attraction of the Province, is celebrated.
The Pilgrimage of the Santísimo Cristo de la Sierra was celebrated for the first time in 1954, organised by the Cristo de la Sierra brotherhood of the time, coinciding with the inauguration of the reconstruction of the hermitage that was destroyed in 1936.
Prior to the pilgrimage, on the Thursday beforehand, the descent of the Christ takes place from the chapel to the temple of San Lorenzo, adorning the town with palms and flowers. It is a tradition in which the throne of the Christ is carried by young women and is accompanied by a band of drums and a cornet and a processional choir.
On Friday, a procession of 30 floats from Malaga will take you to the Abdalajís Valley.
