This municipality, located in the Sierra de las Nieves, a biosphere reserve, stands on a hill surrounded by mountains and forests of holm oaks, firs and pines.

Coinciding with the day of Andalusia, this festival is dedicated to the sopa de los siete ramales, an iconic dish of the town. Its curious name comes from the main ingredients with which it’s prepared: tomato, peppers, onion, garlic, bread, potato and wild asparagus. Its preparation, similar to that of other traditional soups, is unusual in that it includes mint.

During the afternoon, traditional sweets and pastries from the village and the region are distributed. These are made in a traditional way in wood-burning ovens and include roscos de vino, cubiletes, empanadillas, mantecados, tortas de aceite and the famous alfajor from El Burgo, which is of Arab origin.
