Maternities. Jorge Rando
The Jorge Rando Museum houses the exhibition Maternidades (Maternities), by Jorge Rando himself, which may be visited in Room 1 of the gallery until 26 March 2016. The exhibition is an existentialist questioning, which is proposed as an allegory of life and which asks questions and provides answers about the mystery of the origin of human beings: the meaning of existence in view of the Mothers of the exodus, the freedom of the individual in view of the Mothers of prostitution, the essence of their acts for Mothers with their hands tied with respect to the slavery of their children…
The works are characterised by an expressive force that comes mainly from the use of colour and thick brushstrokes. However, the compositions of vertical format at the start of the cycle gradually shift towards a contained abstraction that speaks of pain and dignity.
