The substantial feature of Joacchino Rossini's creation is that he practices a new concept of musical syntax, whose elements he raised to a previously unknown degree. The power of fascination in his work which is universally recognized comes for the simplicity with which he develops the essential principles of any organized musical structure: euphony, repetition, symmetry, and its different variants according to the theatrical or dramatic if you prefer, from each of his creations belonging to the lyric genre, the most transcendent in his catalogue, which greatly influences his Stabat Mater.
The origin of his work's first version can be found in the friendship that in 1830 Rossini began in Paris with the Spanish banker Alejandro Aguado. The latter invited the musician to visit Madrid the following year where the canon Miguel Fernández Varela, Santa Cruzada's General commissioner, academic and influential person in politics and art in the Kingdom of Spain requested Rossini to compose a Stabat Mate.
