The conductor Carlos Domínguez Nieto presents "Symphony No. 5 in B flat major" by the Austrian Anton Bruckner. The work was written between 1875 and 1876, with some changes during the early years of its composition. Its first performance was a transcription for two pianos by Joseph Schalk and Franz Zottmann in April 1887. Bruckner's professional career focused primarily on symphonic works and religious music, but he also displayed a marked tendency to monumentality in his orchestral works, which is reflected in the developments, with a broad instrumentalization. His symphonies are a synthesis between romantic harmony and contrapuntal tradition, often introducing landscapes of great chromaticism and others which are calmer and of more sober colours.
