Holy Week 2018: Archidona

Holy Week in Archidona is one of the broadest and most revered in the province. Characterised by its rich heritage and surprisingly wide range of traditions, uses and customs, the images are quite old and the people of Archidona boast a strong bond with their brotherhoods, the so called cofradías. Holy Week in Archidona is based on the six Brotherhoods of Passion which are:

Palm Sunday: La Pollinica (the Little Donkey), with its canonical seat in the Church of la Victoria.

Ash Wednesday: The Garden, with its see in the Church of la Victoria.

Maundy Thursday: El Nazareno, with its see in the Church of el Nazareno.

Good Friday: El Dulce Nombre, with its see in the Church of la Victoria, the Humility and solitude, both with their see in the Parish of Santa Ana.

The Holy Week in Archidona has a tradition that's almost five centuries old, in which traditions such as bell-ringing, the apostolate with their 'huías',' La 'Embajá' (lowering) of the angel, an excellent typical gastronomy, endless habits and brotherly customs of all kinds and a valuable heritage.
