Holy Week in Arriate is named a Festival of Tourist Interest by Malaga's Diputación Provincial. This celebration brings locals together on the streets in their finest clothes for this traditional festivity. There are confraternities in Arriate that hark all the way back to the 17th century, such as the Cofradía de Nuestro Padre Jesús.  Holy Week in Arriate differs from in other towns, as people here divide into Chrstians and Jews as tradition. The evening of Maundy Thursday is an important date full of sobriety in which the religious procession travels through the main streets with religious figures carried on huge floats, until the procession reaches a key point where Jesus and the Virgin Mary are united.
