Castillo de Gibralfaro

Gibralfaro Castle

Share

The Gibralfaro Castle was built in the 14th century to house troops and protect the Alcazaba. The fortress is on Mount Gibralfaro 132 metres above sea level, with the castle having an area of more than 21,000 square metres with a 1,310 metre-long exterior wall, 733-metre interior wall and eight watchtowers. The castle has an upper level, central patio with the visitor centre where you can learn everything out the fortress, the central tower (Torre Mayor) and a Phoenician well. The other part of the castle includes the lower patio, the parade, the troops’ barracks and stables. Visiting this castle gives you the chance to understand a different side to Málaga, along with learning about its incredible past. Plus, the views of the city are extraordinary.
