The Holy Cathedral of the Incarnation, the official name of Málaga?s cathedral, is one of Andalusia and Spain?s most valuable Renaissance jewels in Andalusia and Spain in general. You can spot this building in the historic city centre from any point in town. The cathedral is synonymous with greatness, majestic, beauty, architecture and artistic wealth. This cathedral was built on the site of the ?la Mezquita Mayor? (the Great Mosque) from the 16th century to the 17th century. This architectural complex was left unfinished due to the lack of one of its towers. That?s why Málaga?s inhabits have given the cathedral the popular nickname of ?La Manquita? (one-armed). The architectural structure has a Latin-cross plan made up of three same-height naves and a polygonal ambulatory. Its interiors are an artistic expression its purest form, and you can find masters such as Giedo de Vergara buried inside the sanctuary. Its choir is a great reference of the 17th century Spanish Baroque architectural style.
