The Dehesa del Mercadillo (“Market Meadowlands”) Peri-Urban Park is primarily made up of stone pine woods adjacent to the municipality of Ronda. The Park, covering a total of 137.77 hectares, was declared a protected natural space in 2000. The main attraction is the views it offers over the Ronda Gorge and the old livestock market after which the Park is named. There is a yearly celebration of the Dehesa del Mercadillo, where the Armed Forces hold an annual public parade of stud horses at a curious event dating back to the 19th century. This is an ideal place to spend a day as a family, as the park has a series of recreational and rest areas. In addition, the convergence of a number of livestock paths makes the Park ideal for practising different sporting activities such as hiking, bicycle touring and horse riding.
