The Laguna de la Ratosa Nature Reserve is a 24 hectare lake, granted natural area status in 1999. The lake is seasonal, fed by rainfall. Located in the municipalities of Alameda and Humilladero, the lake goes through wet and dry periods, meaning olive and cereal crops can coexist in the same area as the lake. Its main interest is its flora. There are many underwater species, although there is little vegetation outside the water. In terms of fauna, there are flamingos, anatid birds, black-winged stilts and Western swamp hens, similar to the fauna at the Fuente de Piedra lake.
