Archaeological Site of Acinipo
These Roman ruins 20 kilometres from the city of Ronda houses the remains of the old Roman settlement of Acinipo. It?s called ?Ronda la Vieja? as it?s deemed the ancient settlement site of this city. The Andalusian government, the Junta de Andalucía, named it a Cultural Interest Site (Bien de Interés Cultural) in 2011. At an average elevation at around 1,000 metres above sea level, the ruins have a strategic location. It was in an area that was well communicated with other parts of the Roman province and had fertile agricultural lands. All these factors influenced in the enclave?s location. The city was built on a steep slope that caused all the buildings to be arranged in a staggered manner. The Acinipo Archaeological Ruins also offer visitors the chance to visit the remains of the baths, walls, domus and Iberian dwellings.
