The Costa del Sol is the perfect place to take the kids to. You will be sure to get the most out of your family holiday thanks to all the things there are to do for children and the range of leisure parks you’ll find.
Theme parks and leisure centres on the Costa del Sol
The Costa del Sol's excellent climate ensures that the region's leisure centres stay open all year round, meaning you’ll be able to come whenever you like in order to enjoy everything the centres offer as a family.
One theme park you really can’t miss is Tívoli World in Benalmádena, which is one of the Costa del Sol's oldest amusement parks. Aventura Amazonia in Marbella is a good choice for the more adventurous out there.
The water parks are the only leisure parks that close during the winter months, but they do remain open during spring and some of autumn. Torremolinos is home to one of the largest water parks on the Costa del Sol – Aqualand. This is an enormous water park that contains impressive slides and the highest kamikaze water slide in the world. Mijas is home to Aquamijas, a water park with choppy rivers, mazes and slides.
In the east of the Costa del Sol, you’ll be sure to have a good time at Aquavelis de Torre del Mar (in Vélez-Málaga).
Unearth the secrets of the animal world on the Costa del Sol
In Bioparc Fuengirola, you’ll have the opportunity to see some of the wildest, most unusual animals from the jungle up close, and you’ll be able to embark on an authentic safari at Selwo Aventura. If you’re looking to immerse yourself in the vastness of the world's seas and oceans, be sure not to miss the iconic sharks at Sea Life Benalmádena, or swim with friendly dolphins at Selwo Marina.
You simply have to go to Lobopark in Antequera to see one of the most fascinating animals alive today: the wolf. On full-moon nights, the centre organises Noche de los Aullidos ("Howl Night") night tours, where you can see the wolves in a different light. Nearby in Fuente de Piedra, you will find the Donkey Sanctuary, a non-profit organisation where you will be able to see these beautiful animals close up and contribute towards their conservation.
Museums, activities and events for children
The museums in the province of Málaga offer activities that help very young children learn through art. Some of the most interactive museums are the Málaga Pompidou Centre, the Carmen Thyssen Museum and the Málaga Interactive Museum of Music (MIMMA), all of which offer programmes designed especially for children.
The Costa del Sol also boasts an extensive and wide range of things for children to do. Echegaray Theatre, for instance, usually puts on several concerts and plays for children. However, the time of year people look forward to above all else is undoubtedly Christmas and the Cabalgata de los Reyes Magos, or the Three King's Parade. Winter is also a great time to go on a family holiday to the Costa del Sol.
