Explanation

Chestnuts in syrup are a typical dessert in the Serranía de Ronda mountains that stands out for its easy preparation and delicious flavour.

They’re often made in the autumn, which is the season for this nut that is the main protagonist in the province’s mountain ranges. Our chestnuts in syrup recipe, accompanied with a cinnamon stick, offers an extraordinary aromatic touch. You’ll fall in love with this treat!

Step by step

1. Put water in a pot to boil, and while you wait for it to get to the boiling point, cut the chestnuts by making a cross shape in each one. Then put them in the already boiling water for three minutes.2. Take the chestnuts out of the pot and put them in a bowl with water and ice to work with them without burning yourself, and then peel them.3. Once you peeled all the chestnuts, put them in a saucepan with water, three tablespoons of sugar, brandy (if you desire) and cinnamon and cook on low heat for 30 minutes until the nuts are soft. Make sure that the chestnuts do not break apart. 4. Let them cool and sweeten!
