
La Maroma, at an elevation of 2,066 metres, is the highest point in Málaga province. In the town of Canillas de Aceituna, the mountain is part of the Sierra de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama Natural Park. The park also offers magnificent panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea while the mountain’s known as La Maroma, its original name is Tejeda.
It’s easy to access La Maroma via the multiple hiking trails in the park. From the northeast, you can get to the mountain from Ventas de Zafraya or Alhama de Granada thanks to the “El Robledal” trail. You can complete this eight-kilometre trail in about four hours.
From the west, you can walk a ten-kilometre trail that starts at the El Alvázar recreational area in Alcaucín. The trail takes five hours and has a high level of difficulty.
From the south, you can take the “Ruta de los Neveros,” an 11-kilometre trail starting in Canillas de Aceituno’s main square. This route used to be the means of transporting ice with the help of donkeys, and today you can walk it in five hours. Lastly, you can climb La Maroma from the town of Sedella.
