Paraje Natural de la Desembocadura del Guadalhorce

Desembocadura del Guadalhorce is a natural area comprised of a large number of manmade lakes that are embraced by the two arms of the river.

This area of natural beauty is an important habitat for migratory birds who stop off on their journey to rest here. You will see species such as ospreys, booted eagles, kingfishers, pink flamingos, spoonbills, black swans, Audouin’s gulls and Caspian terns, among others.

The greenery here evolves with the lay of the land. Close to the sandy beaches, you will find European searocket and prickly saltwort, while in other areas you will see amaranthaceae, nut grass and even some woodland flanking the river.

But Desembocadura del Guadalhorce is not only the stop-off point for a number of migratory birds; it is also a verdant oasis located close to Malaga city where many animals can complete the reproductive cycle.

You can visit this natural area by walking the trails signposted for Río Viejo and Laguna Grande, which will lead you deep into beautiful wildlife.
