Tornillo de El Torcal Natural Monument
El Tornillo de El Torcal has held Natural Monument status since 2001. Due to its original appearance similar to that of a screw, it serves as a symbol of the El Torcal de Antequera Natural Area.
It's an example of the characteristic formations of the karst landscape, resulting from the dissolution and differential disaggregation of the limestone strata combined with erosive processes. It is a very typical form within a site that is considered the best example in the whole of Europe for the study of karst processes and structures.
