Parauta, a stop next to the Escaleretas Spanish fir

A stone's throw away from Sierra de las Nieves Nature Park is where you'll find the village of Parauta. First off, we went to see the famous Escaleretas Spanish fir - a tree designated a Natural Monument that's between 350 and 550 years old, over 30 metres tall and with a trunk that has a circumference of 9 metres. A spectacular natural treasure.

Once we got to the village, we started off our walk at the Señor Chapel, next to the cemetery. We then headed for the Igualeja path, which is home to another symbolic tree in the area: the Vallecillo Holm Oak. We found out that it owes its name to its first owner, who asked that its branches never be cut.

We continued our walk and it soon became clear how this village was able to preserve its Muslim layout. Amongst the village's narrow, winding alleys we came to the Church of the Immaculate Conception from the 16th century, which stills boasts a Mudejar tower.
