Benadalid, Mirador de los Castañares Viewpoint
Benadalid is a village with an interesting offer of active tourism. In this municipality, lovers of climbing will find the Peñón de Benadalid crag, and its via ferrata, one of the most attractive areas for doing this activity. From its highest spot you get spectacular views of the area, making all the effort worthwhile.
The quiet narrow streets of Benadalid are a reminder of its Islamic past. Our route started from the Castle Cemetery. At this point we found different landmarks that caught our attention such as Las Cruces and the exceptional views of the Genal Valley. We went down calle San Isidoro and came out at the Church and Plaza Nueva.
We continued on to the main square, Plaza de Beni-Al-Jali, a meeting point for locals. From here, and via calle Fuente, we got to the washing place or lavadero and the beginning of the trail that ends in Benalauría.
We took calle Carnicería and calle Real and continued up to get to the highest part, from where we were able to enjoy fantastic new views of the Genal Valley.
One of the most recommendable points of the route is the Mirador de los Castañares viewpoint, located right at the entrance to the village if you’re coming from Algeciras towards Ronda. From this point you can take in the impressive views of the Genal Valley and the chestnut forests. It’s especially worth visiting in autumn.
