Cartajima is located on the Alto del Genal in the Serrania de Ronda. Its land shows a landscape with the strong contrasts that the Sierra del Oreganal offers to the north and mountains covered in chestnut, oak and cork oak forests to the south.
This small town lives Easter Week with great intensity, a tradition that has been kept for centuries: at 7am after the bells have been rung, Baby Christ comes out of the church 'Ntra. Sra. del Rosario' to be taken to the garden which has been recreated in the village streets and where he'll be put onto a cradle.
He'll stay there till 12 noon. After the ringing of the bells, Our Lady of the Rosary leaves the church and heads for the street where her son is. In that moment the baby is lifted to his mother therefore celebrating a moment of excitement as mother and son come together and a small dance called 'Cortesías' is performed. A lovely image you'll never forget.
