Don’t miss the exciting Moors and Christians Festival in Benalauría, Costa del Sol. Declared an Event of Tourist Interest, this unique tradition commemorates the 15th century Mudejar uprising with an impressive reenactment on the streets. On the first Sunday of the month, the town’s locals dress up in typical attire from the era to recreate the Reconquista events. The story? The Moors arrive in town, ransack the parish church and kidnap the patron saint Santo Domingo de Guzmán. The Christians go on a rescue mission and the battle commences culminating in victory for the Christians. Throughout the day, the streets fill with theatre, tradition, and lots of history.
