Food Fair and Orange Day
Warm people and hearty food from the sierras characterise Istán. The town is always willing to unearth old recipes and share them with younger generations and with out-of-towners interested in its culinary heritage. In April, all local kitchens get ready to make fennel stew, fried pumpkin with cod and clams, migas and desserts like zahínas, fried porridge or rice pudding. At the Food Fair, dishes are decorated with orange, lemon and wheat bread, among others. Visitors are invited to try them and wash them down with scrumptious fresh orange juice. Apart from the food, there is verdiales music and dance.
