Seven Stick Soup Day
Every 28 February, coinciding with the celebration of Andalusia Day, the Día de la Sopa de los Siete Ramales (Day of the Soup of Seven Branches) is celebrated in El Burgo, a town in the province of Málaga, in honour of this dish that is emblematic of the municipality. The origin of the name of this dish is related to the ingredients with which it is made: tomato, pepper, onion, garlic, bread, potato and wild "triguero" asparagus.
During the event, there is a tasting of the dish, which is accompanied by traditional confectionery of the town and of the region prepared by locals in wood-fired ovens. These products include roscos de vino, cubiletes, empanadillas, mantecados, tortas de aceite and the popular alfajores de El Burgo.
