Sir Douglas' Days – Scottish Festival

Share

The village of Teba, in the region of Guadalhorce-Guadalteba, is organising its Scottish Festival, which takes visitors back to the Middle Ages in the days of Sir James Douglas. The Festival includes a street market, cultural activities, shows and food tastings. There will be bands of Scottish bagpipers too.

The Scottish Festival commemorates the adventure of Scottish knight James Douglas in Málaga, when he was carrying the embalmed heart of King Robert the Bruce on crusade to the Holy Land.

On his way, Sir Douglas fought the Nasrid dynasty with King Alfonso XI's Castilian troops, reconquering Teba's Castillo de la Estrella for the kingdom of Castile. Unfortunately, he was unable to attend to the culmination of his deeds, for he died in battle fighting the Muslim army.
