Mijas Pueblo Fair
The Mijas Pueblo fair takes place during the first two weeks of September in honour of its patron saint, the Virgin of the Peña, with a varied programme of cultural, sporting, musical and festive activities. Celebrations kick off with a Parade of Giants and Cabezudos (Bigheads) through the main streets of Mijas, accompanied by marching bands and the queens of the fairs of Mijas, Las Lagunas and La Cala and their respective maids of honour, and they wind up with a children's party in the Municipal Tent.
On the day of Mijas' patron saint (8 September) and after the traditional floral offering to the Virgin, a Solemn Procession of the statue of the Virgin of the Peña takes place from the parish church to its sanctuary. A wide range of activities take place during the fair: musical and comedy performances in the Municipal Tent and at Plaza de la Virgen de la Peña, children's parties, etc. The fair closes with a spectacular fireworks display.
